NEW AUTOMATIC TICKET GATES AT KEY NORTHERN STATIONS

Gryphon have provided extensive advisory services and project support to the ‘Northern’ franchise since 2010. More recently within the 2016 franchise, they have extended their capabilities and proved to be an excellent partner in relation to our Automatic Ticket Gate programme.

With extremely demanding timescales, Gryphon were able to develop detailed designs for all disciplines within a very short timescale which was critical to us meeting our own ambitious deadlines. Aside from the excellent work they produced during the design phases, Gryphon also demonstrated their delivery expertise by working very closely with our selected contractors and helping them optimise their own works and supporting them at all times with any problem-solving that the project needed.

Arriva Rail North (Retail & Revenue Facilities Programme Lead)

Project Overview:

Gryphon provided specialised engineering and management services to support Arriva Rail North’s franchise commitment in rolling-out Automatic Ticket Gates (ATG) at 13 strategic stations on their station network. These included:

  • Blackburn
  • Salford Crescent
  • Harrogate
  • St Helens Central
  • Bridlington
  • Wigan Wallgate
  • Bradford Forster Square
  • Glossop
  • Hartlepool
  • Salford Central
  • Skipton
  • Warrington Central
  • Barrow-in-Furness
  • Rochdale

The deployment of ATGs at these key stations played a vital role in both the revenue and station security plans for the new franchise. Whilst many of the selected stations had historically been deemed too hard or indeed too expensive to deploy ATGs, the Gryphon team worked very closely with the Northern project team to make sure the ATG solutions could be delivered in a compliant and cost-effective manner. Services provided by Gryphon included:

Principal Designer

  • Produce all pre-construction project documentation
  • Produce all GRIP 4/5 designs for all M&EE, Civils, Comms and structural aspects
  • Manage all consents and approvals including landlords consent and LA Listed Buildings
  • Undertake inter-disciplinary design checks with all contractors and stakeholders
  • Support the client’s HazOp process and safety case review

Principal Contractor

  • Review and approve all sub-contractors QHSE documentation
  • Undertake all site safety briefs and induction for approved sub-contractors
  • Technical advisors to M&EE, Civils and Comms installation teams – design change / as-built approvals
  • Undertake quality checks of finalised installation and support commissioning
  • Provide the client with full as-built designs and Project Health & Safety documentation
